Set Up Camp. Slide It Off. Use Your Ute.

That's the Khaya difference. Unlike a rooftop tent, canopy camper, or trailer, the Alu-Cab Khaya is a slide-on, drive-off system, you arrive at camp, slide the camper off, and drive away. Day trips, town runs, work, your ute stays fully functional while your camp stays set up.

A self-contained off-grid living unit, not just a camper shell

Sleeping, cooking, water storage, power management, and shelter, all integrated into one aluminium unit that mounts and dismounts without permanent modification to your vehicle. Every Khaya features a pop-up roof for full standing room, 400gsm dual-layer ripstop canvas, and a build quality proven by commercial safari rental fleets in South Africa across some of the world's most demanding terrain. We stock and fit the full Khaya range here in Kotara NSW.

Khaya Camper Models

Three models. One slide-on platform. Select a model to see full specs and inclusions.

Shell Only

The Khaya Basic is the entry-point shell. No cooktop, sink, or water system, a blank canvas for experienced builders who want to spec their own electrical, storage, and kitchen systems from scratch. LED wiring and solar pre-run are included, so the infrastructure is there but the fit-out is yours to design.

A shell without a fit-out isn't a functional off-grid camper. We'll help you map out what you actually need, what it'll cost, and whether the Basic is the right starting point for your intended use.

  • Carpeted interior
  • 2-sleeper pop-up tent

Why Alu-Cab Khaya?

Not a budget slide-on. The Khaya is engineered for long-term use in demanding conditions, proven before it ever reached Australia.

Safari-proven durability

Tested by commercial rental fleets in South Africa across some of the world's most demanding terrain. Not a showroom product.

400gsm ripstop canvas

Dual-layer, UV-resistant, with fly mesh on all windows for ventilation and insect protection. Built for Australian conditions.

Dust & waterproof sealing

The full living space stays clean and dry on corrugated dirt roads. Not an afterthought, it's engineered in.

Lightweight aluminium build

Corrosion resistant, strong without unnecessary weight. Important when you're carrying 400–770kg on a dual-cab ute.

Easy on/off design

Full accessory ecosystem

MOLLE storage, lift-off legs, awning walls, air assist kits, spare wheel mounts, prep tables, purpose-built for the Khaya system.

Alu-Cab Khaya Camper - FAQ

  • What's the difference between a Khaya Camper and a Canopy Camper? The Khaya is a slide-on, drive-off system, you detach it from your ute and leave it at camp while you drive away. A Canopy Camper stays permanently mounted on the vehicle. The Khaya gives you a fully independent campsite and a free ute simultaneously.

  • How many people can sleep in a Khaya Camper? The Basic and 2-Sleeper (Comfort) sleep two in the rooftop tent. The 4-Sleeper (Family) sleeps four, two in the rooftop tent, two in the internal bedding area.

  • Is the Khaya Camper suitable for full-time overlanding? Yes. The 2-Sleeper and 4-Sleeper are fully self-contained, cooktop, sink, water tank, power management, shower, and shelter. The canvas and sealing system is proven by commercial safari fleets for long-term, high-use operation. With a proper battery and solar setup, the Khaya runs indefinitely off-grid.

  • What utes does the Khaya Camper fit? The Khaya is designed for most mid-size dual-cab utes, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, Nissan Navara, Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series dual cab, Mitsubishi Triton, and similar platforms. Contact us with your make, model, and build year to confirm fitment.

  • Do I need a GVM upgrade to run a Khaya Camper? Possibly. The fully loaded Khaya pushes up to 770kg before personal gear. On a stock ute with existing accessories, you may be near or over your GVM limit. We assess this at quote stage and can recommend a Lovells GVM upgrade if required.

  • Does the Khaya Camper affect my ute's resale value? No. The Khaya mounts without permanent modification to your vehicle, no drilling, no structural changes. Slide it off and your ute's tray and body are untouched.

  • Do you supply and fit Khaya Campers in Sydney or Newcastle? We're based in Kotara, NSW, approximately 2 hours north of Sydney CBD. We can fit Khaya Campers for customers from Sydney metro, Central Coast, and across the Hunter region. We can combine fitment with accessory installation or a GVM assessment.

  • Can I add Khaya accessories after purchase? Yes. The full Alu-Cab Khaya accessory range can be fitted at any time. We recommend booking accessory fitment at the same time as your Khaya install where possible, it's more efficient and ensures everything integrates correctly from day one.
