Fixed install during the week, remove the whole camper in minutes at camp without uninstalling from the tub. Integrated T-slot mounting rails for fridges, drawers, and water tanks. Alu-Cab MODCAP - FAQ

  • What makes the ModCAP different from a standard Canopy Camper? The ModCAP is modular, you start with a flat-roof canopy and upgrade to a compact, 2-sleeper, or family camper without replacing the base unit. The Canopy Camper is a fixed integrated system. The ModCAP is a platform you build over time.

 

  • Can I start with the ModCAP Canopy and upgrade to a camper later? Yes. That's the core design intent. The flat roof and tent modules are fully interchangeable on the same base. You're not buying a new product when you upgrade, you're adding a module to what's already fitted to your vehicle.

 

  • What vehicles does the ModCAP suit? The ModCAP covers most dual-cab and extra-cab domestic utes, LandCruiser 79 Series dual cab, and American full-size trucks in short and long bed configurations. Contact us with your make, model, and build year to confirm fitment.

 

  • Is the ModCAP a permanent installation? The standard ModCAP mounts directly to your tub, it's reversible, but not something you'll remove casually. If you want regular slide-off capability, the Drive-Off Base lets you remove and reinstall the whole unit in minutes without touching the tub mounting.

 

  • Do I need a GVM upgrade to run a ModCAP? Possibly. The flat-roof canopy starts at 110kg, but the 2-Sleeper and Family modules push 220–280kg before accessories and personal gear. On a well-optioned dual-cab ute you may be near your limit. We assess this at quote stage.

 

  • How does the ModCAP Family Camper sleep four people? The Family Camper uses a side-opening design creating a 2.4m × 2m sleeping area — 4.8m² total. When closed, it fits four pillows and two duvets inside. Two adults in the main area, two in the extended section.

 

  • Can I fit a ModCAP to a 79 Series LandCruiser? Yes. Vehicle-specific mounting kits are available for the 79 Series dual cab across the Canopy, 2-Sleeper, and Family Camper modules. The 79 sits taller, height from tub top ranges from 960mm (flat roof) to 1185mm (Family Camper).

 

  • Do you fit ModCAP systems for customers from Sydney? Yes. We're based in Kotara, NSW, approximately 2 hours north of Sydney CBD. Customers regularly travel from Sydney metro, Central Coast, and Hunter region for ModCAP fitment. Most combine the install with accessory fitment or a GVM assessment.
