The dealer alternative

An independent Land Rover specialist, without the dealer price or the runaround

An independent Land Rover specialist gives owners dealer-level capability without the dealer price tag or the dealer runaround. For Land Rover and Range Rover this matters more than for most makes: these are complex vehicles where a general garage often can’t diagnose an air-suspension or gearbox fault, and the nearest dealer is a long, expensive drive from the Hunter.

We close that gap. Factory-level Auto Logic diagnostics, technicians who actually know the platform, and the ability to repair or rebuild rather than just replace. From a Land Rover service near you to a Range Rover repair, your vehicle gets the attention it needs at an independent price.

And it’s warranty-safe. Under Australian Consumer Law you can have your Land Rover serviced by a qualified independent workshop without affecting your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the correct schedule is followed and fit-for-purpose parts are used. We stamp your logbook every time.

Known Land Rover faults

The Land Rover & Range Rover faults we see most

These vehicles blend serious off-road ability with complex luxury tech, so certain faults come up again and again. Here are the ones owners bring us most, and how we approach them. Tap a fault to read more.

Air suspension faultsSagging · suspension fault warning
One of the most common Land Rover and Range Rover complaints. A vehicle that sags overnight, sits low or throws a suspension fault warning usually points to an air bag leak, a tired compressor, a valve block or a ride-height sensor. We diagnose the root cause rather than just resetting the light, on Discovery 3, 4 and 5 and Range Rover, Sport, Vogue and Velar.
Timing chain & tensioner wearRattle on cold start
On the petrol V6 and V8 and the Ingenium diesels, worn timing chain guides and tensioners announce themselves with a rattle or clatter on cold start. Caught early it’s a manageable job; left too long the chain can slip. We check and replace timing components to keep the engine safe.
Cooling & overheatingCracked plastic pipes · water pumps
Land Rover engines run hot through a lot of plastic pipework. Cracked coolant crossover pipes, tired water pumps and brittle expansion tanks are common causes of low-coolant warnings and temperature spikes. We pressure-test the system and replace the failure-prone parts before they leave you stranded.
Electrical gremlins & diagnosticsBattery drain · warning lights
Parasitic battery drain, flickering warning lights and frozen infotainment are classic Land Rover electrical gremlins, often down to water ingress, tired earth points or a weak battery upsetting the modules. We fault-find with factory-level diagnostics. Note that manufacturer recalls and factory software updates still need the dealer.
Oil leaksGaskets · seals · oil cooler
An oil smell through the vents or spots on the driveway usually trace back to valve cover gaskets, oil cooler seals or a rear main seal. We find the source and seal it properly, rather than topping it up and hoping.
ZF automatic gearboxHarsh shifts · rebuild not replace
Harsh or hunting shifts on the ZF automatic often come down to the mechatronic unit or valve body rather than the whole gearbox. Where we can repair or rebuild instead of fitting a complete replacement unit, we do, which can save you a great deal. We stock parts to suit the ZF gearbox too.
Brakes & drivetrain wearHeavy vehicles wear faster
These are heavy vehicles, so brakes, diffs, transfer cases and steering components wear faster than owners expect. Early brake wear, clunks under acceleration or low-speed vibration all get diagnosed and quoted before we start, and repaired with quality parts.
Why we’re the specialist

Dealer-level capability, independent workshop

What makes us a specialist Land Rover workshop rather than a general garage that will “have a look”.

01

Auto Logic diagnostics

Factory-level Auto Logic and Snap-on diagnostics read the fault codes and live data the same way the dealer does, so we find the real fault, not a guess.

02

Air suspension know-how

Air suspension faults are everyday work for us on Discovery and Range Rover. We pinpoint the cause, air bag, compressor, valve block or sensor, before quoting.

03

Rebuild, not just replace

Where a fault is in the ZF gearbox, a diff or the driveline, we can often repair or rebuild rather than replace the whole unit, which can save you thousands.

04

Genuine & OEM parts on hand

As direct importers with our own warehouse, we carry genuine, OEM and aftermarket parts to suit Land Rover and Range Rover, so common jobs move faster and cost less.

Independent vs dealer

Why choose an independent Land Rover specialist

Same platform knowledge and factory-level diagnostics as the dealer, quoted before the work starts, without the metro-dealer overhead, and with the ability to rebuild rather than just replace. You deal with the technician working on your vehicle, close to home in the Hunter.

When you still need the dealer, and when you don’t

We believe in being straight about this. Here’s the honest split.

Come to us for

Servicing & out-of-warranty repairs

  • Logbook servicing, warranty-safe and stamped
  • Out-of-warranty and post-warranty repairs
  • Air suspension and ZF gearbox faults
  • Diagnostics and electrical fault-finding
  • Genuine and OEM parts from our warehouse
  • Suspension, GVM and touring builds
The dealer still handles

Recalls & in-warranty factory work

  • Manufacturer safety recalls
  • Factory software & firmware updates
  • In-warranty repairs on a covered fault
  • Dealer extended-warranty contract servicing, if your contract requires it

Under Australian Consumer Law, servicing your Land Rover at a qualified independent workshop does not void your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the correct schedule is followed and fit-for-purpose (genuine or equivalent) parts are used. The ACCC has confirmed that logbook wording implying you must use a dealer is misleading. Every service leaves with a stamped logbook and an itemised invoice, your record if a warranty question ever comes up.

Common questions

Land Rover & Range Rover servicing FAQs

Will servicing my Land Rover away from the dealer void my warranty?
No. Under Australian Consumer Law you can have your Land Rover serviced at any qualified workshop without affecting your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as three things are met: the technician is appropriately qualified, the parts are fit for purpose (they don’t have to be genuine), and the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule. We meet all three and stamp your logbook.
Is there a Land Rover specialist near me in Newcastle?
Yes. All Four x 4 is an independent Land Rover and Range Rover specialist in Kotara, central to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the wider Hunter, with customers travelling from the Central Coast and beyond. A genuine, local alternative to the dealer.
Do you service and repair Range Rover and Discovery?
Yes, they’re core work for us: Discovery 3, 4 and 5, Range Rover, Sport, Vogue, Evoque and Velar, plus the older Discoverys and Freelander. Logbook servicing, diagnostics and mechanical repairs, with genuine or OEM parts and a warranty-safe logbook stamp.
Can you diagnose air suspension faults on Discovery and Range Rover?
Yes. Air suspension faults are among the most common jobs we see. We diagnose the root cause, air bag leak, compressor, valve block or ride-height sensor, with factory-level diagnostics, rather than just clearing the fault light, then quote the repair before any work begins.
Do you repair or rebuild the ZF automatic gearbox?
Yes. Harsh or hunting shifts often come down to the mechatronic unit or valve body rather than the whole gearbox. Where we can repair or rebuild rather than fit a complete replacement unit, we do, which can save you a great deal. We stock parts to suit the ZF gearbox too.
Do you service the Defender, including Td5, Puma and the new model?
Yes, from the Td5 and Puma 2.2/2.4 TDCi to the new L663 Defender, plus the classic galvanised-chassis 90s, 110s and 130s. Servicing, diesel and gearbox repairs, and hard-to-get parts to suit the older models from our own warehouse.
Are you a cheaper alternative to the Land Rover dealer?
We’re an independent specialist, so you get the same platform knowledge and factory-level diagnostics without the metro-dealer overhead, quoted before the work starts. And because we can often repair or rebuild rather than replace a whole unit, big jobs can cost significantly less.
Is there anything I still need the dealer for?
Yes, and we’ll always be straight about it. Manufacturer recalls, factory software and firmware updates, and in-warranty repairs on a covered fault are done by the dealer. We’re your alternative for servicing and out-of-warranty or post-warranty repairs, which is most of what a Land Rover needs over its life.
Do you supply parts to suit Land Rover and Range Rover?
Yes. As direct importers we carry genuine, OEM and quality aftermarket parts to suit Defender, Discovery, Freelander and Range Rover, classic to current, plus reconditioned exchange units and parts to suit the ZF gearbox. You can shop our range by model, or we’ll source what your vehicle needs.
Do you stamp the logbook and provide records?
Every service leaves with a stamped logbook and an itemised invoice showing the parts and fluids used. That’s your record, and your safety net, if a warranty question ever comes up down the track.
