Know what you’re booking

Which 4WD service you need, and why book it with us

A logbook service follows your manufacturer’s exact schedule for your make, model and kilometres, so your logbook can be stamped and your new-car warranty stays intact. A general (or full) service is our own comprehensive workshop service, not tied to the book, and the smart choice once your 4×4 is out of warranty. Either way you can service anywhere you like: under Australian Consumer Law a manufacturer can’t void your warranty just because an independent workshop did the work, as long as the correct schedule and quality genuine or OEM parts are used.

Why it matters

Why regular servicing matters more on a 4WD

4WDs work harder than the average car, corrugations, dust, water crossings, heavy loads, long remote distances and towing all accelerate wear the manufacturer’s on-road schedule was never designed around. Skipping or stretching a service is where a cheap oil change turns into a driveline rebuild. On older 4WDs it matters even more: past the warranty window, servicing shifts from ticking a box to catching wear before it strands you a long way from help.

01

Hard kilometres, faster wear

Corrugations, dust and heat punish wheel bearings, CV and uni joints, diff and gearbox oils, and cooling systems well before an on-road car would notice. Condition checks catch it early.

02

Loaded, lifted and towing

A touring rig at or near GVM, or towing a van, works the driveline, brakes and suspension far harder. Fluids and wear items need eyes on them more often, not less.

03

Older 4WDs, higher stakes

Out of warranty and past 150,000 km, the win is prevention: coolant condition, timing gear, hoses, belts and bushes checked so a small job never becomes a big one on the side of a track.

04

Trip-ready, not just road-legal

Before a big lap or the high country, a proper service plus a pre-trip inspection means you leave knowing your 4×4 will get you there and back, the whole reason you built it.

Modern diesel know-how

Servicing modern turbo-diesel 4WDs: DPF, injectors and fuel systems

Modern common-rail turbo-diesels, think Hilux and Prado (1GD-FTV), D-Max and MU-X (3.0L 4JJ1/4JJ3), Ranger and BT-50, are brilliant when they’re looked after and expensive when they’re not. Premium oil to the correct spec isn’t optional on these engines: the right oil protects the turbo and keeps the diesel particulate filter (DPF) regenerating cleanly.

DPF regeneration. Short, slow trips don’t let the DPF burn off soot properly, so it clogs and throws warning lights. We check regen health at service time and can advise if your driving pattern is the culprit before it becomes a forced-regen or replacement bill.

Injectors and fuel quality. Australian diesel and remote refuelling are hard on injectors. We monitor injector health and strongly recommend a quality aftermarket fuel/water separator (Fuel Manager, Direction Plus) for anyone touring beyond the black-top, water in the fuel is a common, avoidable killer.

Intake and EGR. On EGR-equipped diesels an oil-catch can (Provent) keeps the intake clean and helps the engine breathe over big kilometres. Fitted and serviced with your logbook, it’s cheap insurance.

Servicing by platform

What a service covers on the 4WDs we know best

Just a glimpse of some of the rigs we know best, not the full list. We service most other 4WDs and 2WDs too. Every platform has its own schedule, quirks and wear points, so we confirm the correct intervals and inclusions from your VIN and logbook before any work begins.

LandCruiser 100 & 200 Series1HD-FTE · 1VD-FTV V8 diesel
The go-anywhere tourers. A logbook service covers premium engine oil, filters (oil, fuel, air), a full underbody and driveline check, brake inspection, and a service-light reset. On the 200 Series 4.5L V8 we pay close attention to the twin fuel filters and cooling system on high-kilometre and towing rigs. Diff, transfer and transmission oils are checked and changed to schedule.
Hilux N70 & N801KD-FTV · 1GD-FTV diesel
Australia’s workhorse. Minor, intermediate and major logbook servicing with premium oil, filters and a full check-over. On the N80 2.8L (1GD) we keep an eye on DPF regen health and injector condition, especially on tradie utes doing short runs. A major service takes in driveline oils, brakes, cooling and belts per the schedule.
Prado, incl. next-gen LC2501GD-FTV 2.8L diesel
From 150 Series to the next-gen LC250. Manufacturer logbook servicing with premium oil to spec, all filters, DPF and injector checks, and a full underbody and brake inspection. Pricing on next-gen Prado servicing is confirmed from your logbook before work starts, a genuine alternative to dealer pricing.
Isuzu D-Max & MU-X3.0L 4JJ1 / 4JJ3 diesel
Tough, popular tourers. Logbook servicing with premium oil, filters and a full check. On the 3.0L 4JJ1/4JJ3 we monitor DPF regen and fuel/water separator condition, and check the catch can if one’s fitted. Ideal for owners wanting factory-level servicing without the dealer wait, we confirm cost from your logbook up front.
Nissan Patrol Y62 & GUVK56 petrol V8 · ZD30 / TD42 diesel
From the legendary GU diesels to the Y62 5.6L V8. Full logbook servicing with premium oil, filters, driveline oils and a complete check-over. High-kilometre and towing Patrols get extra attention on cooling and driveline, the areas that matter when they’re loaded up and off the black top.
Ford Ranger & Mazda BT-50Common-rail turbo-diesel
Best-selling dual-cabs, worked hard by tradies and tourers alike. Minor to major logbook servicing with premium oil, filters, DPF and injector checks, and a full underbody inspection. We tailor the check to how the ute earns its keep, site work, towing or touring.
Land Rover Defender & DiscoveryTd5 · TDV6/SDV6 · Puma TDCi
Independent Land Rover servicing at a fair price. Logbook servicing with premium oils and genuine or OEM parts, plus factory-level Auto Logic diagnostics for Defender, Discovery 3, 4 and 5 and Freelander. We watch the known wear points, cooling, timing and breathers on the diesels, and reset service indicators so your book stays stamped.
Range Rover & Range Rover SportTDV6/SDV6 · SDV8 · air suspension
The premium tourers. Logbook servicing with the correct oils and genuine or OEM parts, plus factory-level diagnostics and air suspension health checks on Range Rover, Sport, Vogue and Velar. A genuine, cost-effective alternative to the dealership, especially for out-of-warranty vehicles.

Common questions

4WD service & logbook FAQs

How much does a 4WD logbook service cost?
Indicative starting prices are $485 (minor), $685 (intermediate) and $1,350 (major), each using premium oil and including a comprehensive check-over and report. Your final quote depends on your make, model, engine and the level due, we confirm it before any work begins.
Is a 4WD service here an alternative to the dealership?
Yes. Under Australian Consumer Law you can have your 4×4 logbook-serviced at any qualified workshop without voiding your new-car warranty, provided the correct schedule and genuine or equivalent parts are used. We do exactly that, stamp your logbook and supply a full report, at a fair, dealership-alternative price.
Do you do a car service for LandCruiser, Hilux or Prado?
Absolutely. LandCruiser, Hilux and Prado are our bread and butter, from a 100 or 200 Series LandCruiser service to a Hilux major service or a next-gen Prado LC250 logbook service. We’re direct importers and specialise in parts to suit these platforms, so parts are usually already on the shelf.
How often should I service my 4×4?
Most 4WDs are due every 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first, though some makes run a 15,000 km schedule. Your service handbook sets the exact interval and which level (minor, intermediate or major) is due. Send us your details and we’ll tell you.
Is there a 4WD service near me in Newcastle?
Yes, our 4×4 service centre is in Kotara, central to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the wider Hunter, with customers travelling from the Central Coast and beyond. It’s an easy drop-off for a 4WD service near you.
Can you service my D-Max, MU-X, Ranger or BT-50?
Yes. We service most modern 4×4 utes and wagons, including Isuzu D-Max and MU-X (3.0 4JJ1 and 4JJ3), Ford Ranger and Everest, Mazda BT-50, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara and more, even 2WDs. Premium oils, genuine or OEM parts and a stamped logbook every time.
How long does a 4WD service take?
Most logbook services take between two and four hours, a minor service is quicker, a major with driveline oils and a full check takes longer. We’ll give you a realistic time when you book, and courtesy vehicles are available so you can keep moving. Larger jobs are quoted and confirmed before we start.
Do I need a minor, intermediate or major service?
It depends on your kilometres and your manufacturer’s schedule, not guesswork. Give us your rego or VIN and we’ll tell you exactly which service is due from your logbook. As a rule, minor services handle oil and safety checks, while intermediate and major services add filters, driveline oils and deeper inspections.
What oil do you use?
Premium engine oil matched to your manufacturer’s specification, every service, no exceptions. Using the correct grade and spec is critical on modern turbo-diesels, where the wrong oil can affect the turbo and DPF. We use genuine and OEM filters and quality fluids throughout.
Do you reset the service light and logbook reminder?
Yes. Every logbook service includes a stamp in your service book and a reset of the service reminder and maintenance light using factory-level diagnostic tooling. You drive away with the dash clear and your warranty record intact.
Can I get a courtesy car while my 4WD is serviced?
Yes, courtesy vehicles are available, subject to availability, so book yours in when you make your service booking. It’s ideal if you’re dropping off before work or need to keep the day moving while your 4×4 is with us in Kotara.
Do you service fleet and business 4WDs?
Yes. We service fleet and business 4WDs for tradies and local operators across Newcastle and the Hunter, with logbook servicing, written reports and genuine or OEM parts. Talk to us about scheduling multiple vehicles, keeping a fleet compliant and on the road is core to what we do.
Do you service Land Rover and Range Rover 4WDs?
Yes, Land Rover and Range Rover servicing is one of our specialties, covering Defender, Discovery 3, 4 and 5, Freelander and Range Rover, Sport and Vogue. We use premium oils, genuine or OEM parts and factory-level Auto Logic diagnostics, a genuine, cost-effective alternative to the dealership. See our independent Land Rover specialist page for more.
Can you diagnose Range Rover and Discovery air suspension faults?
Yes. Air suspension faults on Discovery 3, 4 and 5 and Range Rover and Sport are among the most common jobs we see. We diagnose them with factory-level diagnostics as part of a service or on their own, road-test to pinpoint the fault, and quote before any work begins. More on our Land Rover specialist page.
